Solar Power

Convert daylight into useable electricity
for your home or business

Would you like to reduce your energy bills?

Why use solar panels?

Installing solar PV panels at your or business will reduce your energy bills and protect you from rising energy costs. You will also receive payments for energy sent back to the grid via the smart export guarantee!

The cost of solar PV has fallen rapidly in recent years and more and more homeowners and businesses are discovering its financial benefits.

You can save even more if you pair your solar system with a battery. This will store the energy your system produces that you cannot use (for example in the day when you’re out), so you can use it later instead of buying energy from the grid.

How do they work?

Solar PV systems use solar panels mounted on a roof or the ground to convert natural light into electricity. The panels consist of one or two layers of a semiconducting material, usually silicon. When light shines on the cell it creates an electric field across the layers causing electricity to flow. The greater the intensity of the light, the greater the flow of electricity.

The solar panels gather solar energy in the form of natural light and convert it into direct current (DC) electricity. An inverter can convert this DC power into alternating current (AC) power, which is the type of electricity used in your home.

Savings and Incentives

A solar PV system can produce up to 50% of your electricity.
You can also save money on your hot water by installing a battery or immersion diverter.
Solar PV systems installed by Energize are eligible for the Feed-in Tariff scheme:

The Panels:

Energize recommend JA Solar; the company has been The World’s leading cell producer since 2010, and has firmly established itself as a tier one module supplier, providing a 25 year performance warranty.

Every project is different; Energize does not take a “one panel, one manufacturer suits all” approach.

The Inverters:

There are 3 types of inverter:

String:

This is the most common inverter technology. All panels are placed on one or two strings with a central tracker doing all the work. These systems work well in most applications, however every panel on a string will perform at the level of the lowest performing panel. This can be an issue if there is shading, soiling or a potentially faulty panel.

String inverters typically have a ten year warranty which covers the cost of labour replacement, but may not be cost effective across multiple roofs.

Solaredge:

Solaredge works in a similar way to a string inverter, however every panel works independently from one another allowing the system to maximise the performance. Each panel can be monitored individually meaning that it is easier to spot a faulty panel. Solaredge also brings an added level of safety; each panel can be shut down in the event of an emergency.

Solar edge inverters have twelve or twenty year warranty on the central inverter and a twenty five year warranty on the optimisers.

Microinverters:

Microinverters offer similar benefits to Solaredge, however instead of a central inverter being used, each panel has its own. This saves room as no space is needed for a main inverter. Research shows that the inverter is the part of the system that is most likely to become faulty, so why would you buy more inverters than you needed and stick them in a hard to access place?

Microinverters offer a twenty year warranty although this does not cover the cost of labour to replace the inverter.

FAQs

  • Is it still worth installing solar panels?
Yes! A few years ago the Feed-in Tariff was much higher, however since then the cost of installing solar panels has dropped drastically and the price of electricity is still rising. There is still a return on investment for installing solar panels.
  • Do they work in a power cut?
Most Solar PV systems do not work in a power cut, this is not a huge problem for the majority of people as power cuts tend to be short lived and rare. However if you wish to have a backup during power cuts please contact us.
  • How is the Export Tariff paid?

Energize will assist you in applying for an Export Tariff. You can open an account with your energy provider or a third party.

The export payments are then either credited to your bill or paid directly into your bank account.

  • Do I need planning permission?
In the majority of situations planning permission is not required; if you have any concerns or wish to discuss your project please contact us.
  • How long do solar panels take to be installed?
Solar installations are usually completed within one day.
